Hot updating of behavioural blocking rules. In order to increase protection on the fly against new vulnerabilities and attacks and to fix false positives, hot updating of behavioural blocking rules allows faster response time in both the Free and Pro Editions.
Immediate notifications of virus detections. Previously if Panda Cloud Antivirus encountered multiple viruses, it would delay its traybar notification and show them grouped. This behaviour has been changed so that the notifications are shown immediately.
Suspicious detection counter. Under the statistics window there’s some new counters for the different types of heuristics and behavioural detections.
New versioning format. Unified versioning format in GUI and other parts of the program.
Many bugfixes as reported by users in our support forum:
– Fixed issue with Windows 7 Start menu slow-down.
– Fixed Panda traybar icon disappearing.
– Fixed “you are not connected to the Internet” message when there is connection.
– Fixed issue when Free Edition users can activate behavioural analysis.

The normal version produces better error messages, and - of course - the obfuscator might have bugs as well. Facebook is one of the biggest photo sharing websites out there. Also, we upload so many albums to share with friends and family. We have albums for every major event we have. Another thing to remember is when friends tag us on their photos. Here is the problem. What if you actually want to download all the photos you have been tagged in for personal storage. I found a piece of open source software that download all the photos you have been tagged in. It is called photograbber.
Photograbber is application makes it easy to download pictures from Facebook.

How to use..?
Windows

Photograbber is a stand alone executable file, there is no install
or uninstall process. Just extract pg.exe and dep to the same directory.
If you try to run pg.exe from within the zip folder you will get a warning:
"This application may depend on other compressed files in this folder."
You should click "Extract all".

OSX

Unzip and drag PhotoGrabber.app into your Applications folder.

Just click " pg.exe " on extract the downloaded file,... then lets go here:

3.Next, login using your facebook account, enter your email and password, then click the "Sign In" at the bottom right corner .. It would appear the following message ...

4. Grab or copy the code on the box.... copy and paste the code in the application

5. Click the blue button which reads "I Want to download ..." until the appeared list / list your Facebook friends.

6. Mark all the check box, then select your friends list that will be downloaded. Click the blue button labeled "Begin Download" , and select the folder where to save the file downloaded ... and then click OK.
Looks the download process, the total photo who downloaded and the number of photos which have succeeded in downloading ..

Wait until the blue button which reads "Begin Download" turned into "That Is" ..

Window’s users, know that you must have an Anti-Virus installed to protect you from Malware. But have you ever seen your Anti-Virus pop-up and warn you that you are infected? If not, why not test it? Tux Math 1.9.0 has been released in source code form and as an executable win32 installer. This release features LAN multiplayer action - all players compete to answer the same questions, and the first correct answer gets the points! For the first time, the Windows build has proper library support to correctly display non-Western languages. "Under the hood", the extensive code reworking has mostly been completed, so users can expect to see a resumption of work on improved visible features. Most TuxMath users will want to obtain this significant upgrade.
TuxMath is an arcade game that helps kids practice their math facts. The main goal is to make it effective and fun!

TuxMath 1.9.0 is available for download as source tarballs and Win32 installer builds. TuxMath now features head-to-head play over a local network, suitable for school tournaments and similar competitions. As this is a new feature, some bugs may be present. The Windows build now has the libary support needed for proper display of non-Western text (the Linux version has had this for some time). Try Linux via Flash Drive

Are you an average computer user that is only aware of Windows and Mac OS’s? If so, I have a revelation for you; these OS’s are not the only operating systems available for your computer. For example, there is Linux. Yet with Linux, there are many different versions also know as distros. The most popular of the these distros, in my opinion, are Fedora and Ubunntu. Ubuntu is perhaps the most user friendly.
On a quick note, I would like to mention that you can run Windows on a Mac and Mac OSX on a typically Window Machine with a bit of work.
Subsequently, the main focus of today’s tip is to allow the average user (or power user) to try out Linux. The objective is to run an entire OS from a flash drive (or a CD, if you still use those ).
First, one must download a distribution of Linux. Below are a few of them

The Universal USB Installer , get it here

Once you have downloaded and have the program running, install on a 2gb flash drive and follow the on-screen instructions.

This Software automates the entire process for you.
Once it is completed, you may now boot Linux from your Flash Drive.
In order to do so, SHUTDOWN your computer and power it on BUT press f2 or Del (for PC) or which ever message that prompts you to the boot menu, similar to the image below

Change the boot order to “first be removable drive” or you may also see your flash drive listed there.
Then once you exit, make sure the flash drive is plugged in. It should boot from your flash drive instead of your hardrive and voila! Linux has appeared.
Once prompted, select Run and try it out!

Secrets of the Start menu - Feature on Windows 7

If you use Windows 7, you almost certainly use the Start menu on a daily basis. But how much do you really know about it? Sure, it's the default way to launch applications and even to search for files and programs.

But there's more to the Start menu - much more. Microsoft has tucked away lots of little surprises and a surprising amount of customisation options in the updated Start menu.

Read on for a taste of what you have probably been missing.

Launch URLs
Launching programs is just the beginning of what you do with the Windows 7 Start orb. You can think of the Start menu as a web browser, too - or at least a launchpad for web pages. For example, you can go directly to any domain by opening the Start menu and typing the web address, as in http://aiofree.com.

Or, even better, you can use the Start menu just like a search engine. To do so, first open the Start menu and type "gpedit.msc," and then press Enter. The Local Group Pollicy Editor will open.

From there, in the left-hand pane under User Configuration, expand the Administrative Templates folder, and then select Start Menu and Taskbar. In the right-hand pane, double-click "Add Search Internet link to Start Menu," and click Enabled in the resulting dialog box.

Click OK. Once you have done that, you can open the Start menu and type any search phrase, just as you would in a search engine. Directly above the search field will be an item labeled "Search the Internet." Click that, and your web browser will launch, with the search results for your phrase displayed immediately.

Pin apps and files
Applications find their way to the top level of the Start menu according to how recently or how often they are used. That's a handy feature, but most of us have programs that we'd like to have always pinned to the top level for quick access.

There are a couple of ways to pin programs permanently to the top level of the Start menu. First, if you open your Start menu and see a program that you'd like to have permanently on the top level, just grab it with your mouse cursor and start dragging it to the top of the Start menu.

The words "Pin to Start menu" will appear, and at that point you can simply let the icon go, and it will be pinned to the top of the menu.

If you are a couple of levels into the Start menu and you see a program you want pinned to the top level, just right-click the icon and select "Pin to Start menu" from the context-sensitive menu. Again, the application will be pinned to the top of the menu.

You can also pin documents or files to the top of your Start menu. To do so, locate the file using Windows Explorer or another file selection tool, and drag the file to the Start orb. When you see the words "Pin to Start menu," just release your mouse button, and your file will snap to the top of the Start menu.

Customise it
If you haven't customised your Windows 7 Start menu, find out what you have been missing. Right-click the Start menu, and select Properties from the pop-up menu. In the resulting Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, click the Customise button to launch the Customise Start Menu dialog.

There, you'll see a couple dozen ways that you can make the Start menu your own - and make it much more useful than it is by default. Many of the options there control the items that appear on the right side of the Windows 7 Start menu.

For instance, you can give yourself direct Start-menu access to features you probably considered the domain of other applications. Your browser's Favourites menu, for example, can be ported directly to the right side of the Start menu, as can links to your network, documents, homegroup, downloads, and videos.

You can even bring back the Run command, which was available by default in the Start menu of earlier version of Windows. You can also create more space in the Start menu by turning off the "large icons" option.

Finally, notice the "Number of recent programs to display" setting at the bottom of the Customise Start Menu dialog box. Adjust this number up or down to change how many recently-launched applications show on the top level of the Start menu - on the left-hand side. Increasing the number from the default of 10 will, of course, make your Start menu longer.

If you end up being unhappy with your customisations of the Start menu and want to return to the default settings, click the Use Default Settings button.

66% Of All Windows Users Still Use Windows XP

Almost one year after the introduction of Windows 7 it appears that the hype surrounding the operating has faded. The overall market share of Windows has turned into a slight decline again. Windows 7 is gaining share, but cannot keep pace with the loss of Windows XP and Vista. Especially Windows XP users seem to be happy with what they have and appear to be rather resistant to Microsoft’s pitches that it is time to upgrade to Windows 7.

It is no secret that Windows users have learned that change is something Windows computers don’t like. Often, it is much easier to leave the Windows version that came with a PC as it was and avoid the pain of upgrading. Vista may have been an exception as the operating system itself was worth the extra pain (or not), while Windows XP was a solid software that works well for the majority of computer users worldwide even today.

New market share data recently released by Net Applications puts XP’s market share at 60.03%, down from 60.89% in the month before. Windows Vista fell from 14.00% to 13.35%, while Windows 7 gained 1.25 points to 17.10%. It is interesting to see that Vista and XP lost a combined 1.51 points in September: The difference between the gain of 7 and the loss of Vista/XP represents 100% of the Windows market share loss, which was down 0.25 points to 91.08% in September.

Since the launch of Windows 7 in October 2009, the operating system was able to post a net gain of market share in only three months, according to Net Applications, and was hit with a net market share loss of 1.44 points over the past 11 months. If we believe the data published by Net Applications, then Windows 7 has not been able to stop the market share bleeding of Windows, even if it has slowed a bit: In the past 9 months, Windows lost only 0.92 points, while Windows lost 1.14 points in the 9 nine months directly preceding the launch of Windows 7.

Windows XP has dropped in market share from 70.48% to 60.03% since the launch of Windows 7. When Windows 7 was introduced, Windows XP had a 76% share among all Windows users; now it is estimated at 66%. Windows 7 has already a 19% share among all Windows users and is likely to overtake Windows Vista in this discipline within the next two months: Windows Vista never had a greater share among Windows users than 20.35%, according to Net Applications. Vista had a share of 14.66% among all Windows systems that have been counted by Net Applications in September.

Windows XP drops less than 1 point in overall market share every month. Given the fact that it still has about 60% of overall share it could take another year until the operating system will drop below 50%, unless some miracle happens or we are finally seeing ancient computer systems in business environments being replaced. It is simply amazing that an operating system that will celebrate its 10th birthday next year is still, by far, the most popular operating system worldwide. To be fair, I should mention that Windows XP is still actively sold and will be kicked to the curb, this time for real, this month: The deadline is October 22.

It is unlikely that this will change something dramatically for the market share of Windows XP in the short term and the fact that Microsoft thoroughly screwed itself with a crappy Windows Vista release doesn’t help. You could always send Microsoft your ideas how to get rid of those stubborn Windows XP users and convince them to upgrade to Windows 7. I personally believe that it was a mistake to pitch Windows as a new operating system, as we know that it was simply a massive patch that finally brought up Windows 7 to the level it should have had in the first place. It was a brave move to sell Windows 7 as a new operating system release, but if Microsoft really wanted people to upgrade, it would have needed to offer Windows 7 as a free or nearly free update. Sort of a service pack. A smoother upgrade process would also help. Many users are just tired of upgrades that require a lot of effort and come with the notion that the computer may not boot after the upgrade.

Net Applications’ data does not reveal who gains from Microsoft’s market share losses. Both MacOS X (5.03%) and Linux (0.85%) are stable and the only operating system that shows gains is Apple’s iOS, which is now at a share of 1.18%.

Editor’s Note: Yes, we are keeping an eye on StatCounter’s data as well. The analysis firm currently estimates Windows XP’s market share at 53.99%, Vista’s share at 16.59% and 7’s share at 22.04%. The overall trend reflects Net Application’s trend, even if the absolute numbers are very different. StatCounter’s data suggests that XP’s share among all Windows systems is about 58%, Vista’s share is about 18% and 7’s share is about 24%. The data also indicates that Windows 7 is close to Vista’s record market share of 25.28%, which was reached in October 2009.

DriveGLEAM is a harddrive activity indicator and also include built in extensions for monitoring CPU and memory load. It works by immitating the harddrive LED on screen. This is a very useful if your computer case is hidden (under the table) or on another physical location (remote desktop).

DriveGLEAM features independent indicators for each drive or partition and allows you to monitor both read and write access. As a option DriveGLEAM allows for external output (via the parallel port) so it will be possible to build a LED panel for monitoring your hard-drives with real physical LED's. The difference between the build in HDD access LED on your computer case and DriveGLEAM external ones is that DriveGLEAM allows for independent colored LED's for read or write access. DriveGLEAM can also use your keyboard's scroll lock LED as a activity indicator.

DriveGLEAM is known as a robust and fast application. It's also very resourcefriendly and does not require a install or other external files with the exception of inpoup32.dll if you want to use external output. DriveGLEAM does install behind the scene drivers or 'hook' into your system and will thus not reduce your overall system performance. As a bonus a potential failure can't corrupt your hard-drive(s) content or should not be able to halt your system. For the technical minded people DriveGLEAM is written in 100% C for maximum performance.

DriveGLEAM works with the following versions of Windows:
2k, XP, 2k3, Vista, 7 Beta (you might have to adjust the settings for the notification are in Win 7 Beta)

Known issues:

- Only fixed / physical disk's give useable results and should be enabled for monitoring.
- If you have start with OS enabled and no tray icons you will NOT get the window to appear! Use taskmanager to end the process.
- Won't display any activity on TrueCrypt drives. This is not a bug in DriveGLEAM and most likely a issue with TrueCrypt itself. (1)
- WinXP pre SP1: You should not use CPU load indicator on such systems.
- Win2k: On some system with performance counters disabled DriveGLEAM might not work.
- Some systems may not report drive activity back (always idle). This is most likely a driver problem
- Remember that DriveGLEAM looks at read/write from the OS point of view and due to caching etc.. it might not match your real led 100% alltough it should be close ;)
- DriveGLEAM may display (to many) extra icons when drives are removed or added to the system while running.
- The scroll lock LED feature does in fact simulate a REAL keypress. This is a horrible solution but it works for some. The problem is that it's not possible to flash the scroll lock led in a systemfriendly way without simulating a real keypress. I hesitate to use other tricks / hacks to do this another way.

Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail, says Google, at a company press conference today. Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name.

Gmail voice and video chat makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family using your computer’s microphone and speakers. But until now, this required both people to be at their computers, signed into Gmail at the same time. Given that most of us don’t spend all day in front of our computers, they thought, “wouldn’t it be nice if you could call people directly on their phones?”

Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed . It's really cheap (see comparison table) with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan—and many more countries—for as little as $0.02 per minute.

Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name.
If you have a Google Voice phone number, calls made from Gmail will display this number as the outbound caller ID. And if you decide to, you can receive calls made to this number right inside Gmail (see instructions).

They are rolling out this feature to U.S. based Gmail users over the next few days, so you’ll be ready to get started once “Call Phones” shows up in your chat list (you will need to install the voice and video plug-in if you haven’t already). If you’re not a U.S. based user—or if you’re using Google Apps for your school or business—then you won’t see it quite yet. We’re working on making this available more broadly—so stay tuned!

LiveW is a Linux OS based on openSUSE (11.1 atm) which is targeted at warez users. It includes a range of programs and tools for downloading, running and viewing warez. It also has many things pre-installed and configured which you normally don't find in Linux distros such as Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc including Flash, PlayOnLinux, Wine, lots of codecs, Microsoft core fonts, working and pre-configured sub-pixel font rendering for LCD monitors etc. You don't have to remove Windows or install it in order to use, you can just boot from the CD (Live CD). Though if you like you can still easily install it to your harddrive after you booted the CD, and I would recommend doing so. Another thing worth noting is: no viruses, trojans, keyloggers, BSOD's whatsoever! However, you can still get Rick Roll'd.

Sometimes the system reverts to the default openSUSE theme. If this should happen you can easliy change it again by going to Computer > Control Center > Appearance and changing the theme to LiveW 0.1.
Some of the openSUSE art, branding and icons hasn't been replace yet.
This is an ALPHA release, other issues and bugs should be expected.

Things not present yet that will be in the Final version:

Additional Firefox Add-ons, Bookmarks and Plugins.
Homebrew scene apps and some custom programs by me (for warez users).
A Peer-2-Peer client.
Simple CompizConfig Settings Manager.
Some other stuff which I can't think of now.

Minimum system requirements:
- Single core AMD Athlon64 or 64 bit Pentium 4 processor
- 256MB RAM, 512MB is highly recommended
- 3GB HDD (for installation)

I would personally also recommend a recent ATI or nVidia card.

Commenting is one of the most integral parts of blogging: it’s what makes blogging a conversation, not a monologue. That’s why we are pleased to announce two cool new improvements to Blogger’s comments system: much better spam filtering and the ability to view all comments on your blog in one place.

Introducing Comment Spam Filtering
A blog is an open communications system, inviting conversations from all web users. Unfortunately, spammers have been finding their way into these conversations. To fight spam, some of you enabled moderation of all comments or required word verification or login. While somewhat effective, these checks limit real-time conversations around your blog.

To address this, we’ve integrated Google’s spam filtering technologies into the Blogger comment system. Some of you will notice the new “Comments” tab. (Note: We are gradually rolling this out to all users, so some of you may not see the new Comments tab yet.) In the Comments tab, there is a Spam sub-tab that shows all the comments that are likely spam.

The comments in the Spam inbox are not visible to your readers. Here, you can permanently delete spam comments by selecting them and choosing Delete. You can also mark comments as Not Spam that have been incorrectly classified as spam (what we call the “false-positives”). Choose Not Spam and the selected comments will be moved out of the spam list and will be immediately published on your blog.

These feedback actions also help us better identify spam on your blog. We encourage you to occasionally check your Spam inbox to see if any non-spam comments have been marked as spam. Please note that spam filtering currently only applies to new comments.

You can report any issues with our new spam system by clicking on the “Report spam filtering issues” link on the bottom of the Comments | Spam page, or by visiting this Help Forum page.

Comments “Inbox”
We also created a place where you can see all the comments that have been published on your blog. The Comments | Published sub-tab provides a similar view as your email inbox. This view comes in handy when you want to see all of the comments on your blog in one place. With the new comments inbox, it’s easy to find new comments on old posts.

In the Comments | Published sub-tab, you can select comments and mark them as spam or delete them. When you mark a comment as Spam, it will be deleted immediately from your blog. You can also Delete comments for editorial reasons or just Remove Content to leave a record of the comment.

Comment moderation has also moved under the Comments tab and has been extended to allow you to mark comments as Spam.

Make Your Own Photo in Your Blog’s Background

After Blogger launched the Blogger Template Designer, one of the most requested features was the ability to upload your own background image. Though their provide hundreds of professional stock photos from iStockPhoto, they know many of you are serious photo buffs and would like to use your own beautiful photo as your blog’s background image.
And now you can! Go to Design | Template Designer | Background, click on Background Image, and you’ll notice a new “Upload image” option, which will allow you to select and upload your image.

For images that fill the entire background, we recommend using a resolution of 1800 pixels wide and 1600 pixels high, and file size less than 200KB to minimize the loading time of your blog pages. We support JPEG, GIF, and PNG format images.

After uploading a photo, you will see additional options that are not available for the built-in images:

Alignment, Repeat, and Scroll options.

Alignment: You can adjust horizontal (left, center, right) and vertical (top and bottom) alignment of your background image.
Repeat (Tile): If you have a small image, you can have it repeat horizontally and/or vertically to fill the page. Otherwise, we recommend that you choose a page background color that blends in with your background image.
Scroll: By default, your image stays in place while readers scroll the page contents. By selecting the “Scroll with page” option, both the background image and page contents scroll together. We recommend that you use an image that blends into your background color or set your image to tile vertically if you choose this option.

The new Google font previewer

The new Google font previewer lets you test drive all the fonts in the directory so you can decide which web font in the Google Font API works best for your requirements.
Now, whenever you visit the font family page of any of the fonts, you will see a link saying “Preview this font” that will load your font selection into the font previewer.
Here you can edit the text, change its size and line height, and add decorations and spacing among other things. You can even apply text shadow to your text.

The previewer will generate the corresponding code for you so all you have to do to start using the font on your own website is to copy and paste the stylesheet link and the CSS into your pages. In the example above this would be:

Windows XP users may remember a nice little right-click-context-menu resident image resizing app from Microsoft called “Image Resizer Powertoy”. You may also remember that it was XP 32/64-bit specific, and that it did NOT work on Vista or Windows 7 or 64bit OS’s. As it’s name suggests, Image Resizer PowerToy Clone is a clone of the aforementioned tool that works with XP, Vista, and Windows 7, 32 bit and 64 bit. Like it’s namesake, it is designed for quick resizing of images by selecting them in Windows explorer and right-clicking “Resize Pictures” in the context menu.
Once you select your image or images and choose “Resize Pictures”, the following dialog appears, which is fairly self explanatory.

Lists all autostarted files on your Windows

There are several different places that Windows looks to find programs starting automatically. There’s a couple of different places in the registry, services and of course the Windows Start-Up folder. You can of course modify these files and registry entries manually, but you can also do it with built-in Windows apps such as MSCONFIG. These still aren’t quite as easy as programs such as AutoStart Explorer though.

Autostart Explorer is a powerful application that lists all autostarted files on your system. Unlike other similar utilities, which may list autostarted files from only certain locations such as the registry Run keys, Autostart Explorer has been designed to show every autostarted file on your system, no matter how obscure the location it is started from.

Analyze Windows DMP Files / Crash Dumps

Windows troubleshooting can be a serious pain. Booting into safe mode, normal mode, msconfig, registry edits, bad hardware, on and on and on. Sometimes it rolls into a huge continuous loop with no sight of an end. This is especially true when it comes to the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). A quick flash of a blue screen with nothing more then unreadable code, typically in relation to a hardware driver.

WhoCrashed shows the drivers which have been crashing your computer with a single click. In most cases it can pinpoint the offending drivers which have been causing misery on your computer system in the past. It does post-mortem crashdump analysis and presents all gathered information in a comprehensible way.

Normally, debugging skills and a set of debugging tools are required to do post-mortem crash dump analysis. By using this utility you do not need any debugging skills to be able to find out what drivers are causing trouble to your computer.

It displays each of the hardware drivers that are crashing your system so that you can remove one-by-one each of these problem child PC parts. This makes life easier for administrators.
WhoCrashed requires the Windows Debugging tool which will be installed with it, if it isn’t already present.

Note that WhoCrashed cannot be always 100% sure about the drivers which are responsible for crashing your computer. Because all kernel modules run in the same address space, a kernel module is able to corrupt another. Also, a driver may be able to cause problems to another driver which runs in the same device stack. So keep in mind this software is not guaranteed to identify the culprit in every case but most often it does.

WhoCrashed relies on the Windows Debugging Package (WinDbg) from Microsoft. If this is not installed, WhoCrashed will download and extract this package automatically for you.

Another Ubuntu Fork: Pinguy OS

There is another fork of Ubuntu in town and it is called Pinguy OS.
Pinguy OS is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and is built to have more eye-candy (CoverGloobus, Gloobus Preview, GNOME Do, Docky) than Ubuntu and to be a little bit more user friendly. For example, .iso files open with Basero Disc Burner and not in Archive Manager as it does in Ubuntu.

Pinguy OS is available only for 64-bit syatems. Unlike Ubuntu, as soon as you finish installation you can straight away start listening to music or watch video as all the audio and video codecs are included during the installation. It also comes with Flash and Java. Some minor annoyances in Ubuntu are also fixed in Pinguy OS. These include wireless problems, Gwibber’s Facebook problem and Flash Video in full screen. Even Samba and Upnp are all set up and ready to be used.

Pinguy OS comes with Elementary-Nautilus with plugins to fetch album art from the web. Elementary is the default theme.

All in all Pinguy OS is not much different from Ubuntu. It is based on a stable OS. So it should be stable enough. Its default list of applications also looks very good. It consists of a lot of applications which I usually use (and I am sure that many others too use them).

So, for a complete noob, Pinguy OS may be useful. However, I will not recommend it to anyone over Ubuntu. The problem with Pinguy OS as I see right now is that there is just one person behind it and I do not think only one person can maintain a distro properly. Yes it is based on Ubuntu and you can use the Ubuntu PPAs; but the question is “Will there be new releases like in Ubuntu?” Moreover, most of the changes in Pinguy OS can be done in Ubuntu too very easily. So for now hold on to your Ubuntu installation until Pinguy OS really differentiates itself from Ubuntu.

However, if you are interested, go ahead and download it.

Install and Remove
Since version 1.51, CPU-Z includes an installer. The installation offers several advantages in comparison to the stand-alone version :

The installation creates program entries in the start menu and on the desktop.

Installation

Although some of you use Google Analytics or other third party tools to track your blog traffic, many of blogger have requested an easier-to-use, fully-integrated stats feature for Blogger. They heard that, and they are excited to announce that Blogger in Draft now has built-in stats. Just go to Blogger in Draft, and you'll notice a new "Stats" tab. You don't have to install or configure anything to start benefitting from Stats.

The coolest thing about the new Blogger Stats is that it monitors and analyzes your visitor traffic in near-real-time. You can see which posts are getting the most visits and which sites are sending traffic to your blog right now. For example, if a reader shares one of your blog posts on Twitter and the post is getting lots of clicks, you will see a traffic increase in Blogger Stats almost instantly, with the particular Tweet mentioning your post being identified as the traffic source. Of course, traffic data across longer time periods (day/week/month) and all-time historical data are available as well.

There's also a lot more data that's being tracked, such as popular search keywords that send visitors to your blog, which country your visitors come from, and which web browsers they are using. Basically, with the new Stats feature, you know what's going on with your blog right now.

The new Stats feature shows all of this data in a simple, easy-to-understand graphical user interface. Since Stats are part of Blogger, you don't have to sign up for another service, or embed any code in a gadget.

Additionally, if you want the enterprise-level power and flexibility of Google Analytics, you can still use it, as outlined in this Help Center article. Note that the pageview data in Blogger Stats and in Google Analytics may not be identical, due to different collection mechanisms used. Also, Blogger Stats do not support private blogs for now.

Windows 8 in 2012, Beta as Early as 2011

Microsoft started dropping the first Windows 8 references as early as March 2009; yes, long before Windows 7 was finalized. And the next iteration of the Windows client and server operating systems are now taking shape in Redmond. The software giant already confirmed officially that Windows 8 client and Windows 8 Server are being developed in parallel. Just as it was the case for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Still, the company is mute on the evolution of Windows, including features, capabilities, the actual timetable, etc.

The successor of Windows 7 is planned for availability within three years after the GA of its predecessor. Microsoft said it would impose such a rhythm after the release of Windows Vista, promising to never again repeat the gap between Windows XP and the delivery of the OS initially codenamed Longhorn. It took the software giant less than three years after Vista’s general availability to offer Windows 7 to customers around the world, and the same is valid for Windows 8.
In this regard, Windows 8 is reportedly planned for release by mid-2012, some two years away. Mary-Jo Foley reveals that the planning stage for the platform has been already finalized, and that Microsoft already wrapped up the first Milestone for Windows 8. Some Softpedia readers might still remember that Windows 7 M1 (Milestone 1) was served to early adopters for testing at the end of 2007, with the first copies leaking as early as 2008, a year after Windows Vista hit store shelves.

150 million sold copies of Windows 7 later, we are now at a little after eight months since the latest major version of Windows was released, and almost a year since it RTM’d. Just the right time for Microsoft to start the actual coding for Windows 8.

The company is bound to produce a few Milestone releases of Windows 8, before actually taking it to the next level, and producing the first Beta build. If Windows 7’s development process offers any clues, Windows 8 could hit Beta as early as mid-2011, a year from now. Of course, all reports related to Windows 8 need to be taken with a grain of salt, since no actual details were confirmed by Microsoft.

Microsoft refuses to patch infected Windows XP machines

Microsoft has revealed that its latest round of patches won't install on XP machines if they're infected with a rootkit.

Back in February, a security patch left some XP users complaining of endless reboots and Blue Screens of Death. An investigation followed and Microsoft discovered the problems occurred on machines infected with the Alureon rootkit, which interacted badly with patch KB977165 for the Windows kernel.
Microsoft's latest patches also contain kernel updates, and in an effort to avoid a repeat performance, the company has prevented the patches from installing on infected machines.

This security update includes package detection logic that prevents the installation of the security update if certain abnormal conditions exist

"This security update includes package-detection logic that prevents the installation of the security update if certain abnormal conditions exist on 32-bit systems," Microsoft cautions in the patch notes.
"These abnormal conditions on a system could be the result of an infection with a computer virus that modifies some operating system files, which renders the infected computer incompatible with the kernel update," it concludes.
As Microsoft has noted, while the solution prevents users from suffering the misery of Blue Screens of Death, it does leave them unprotected and the company has urged users to download its Malicious Software Removal Tool to clean up their machines and run the patch as soon as possible.

Trial Ubuntu before you install it.

1. If you're using a CD: Put the Ubuntu CD into the CD/DVD-drive and restart the computer. You should see a welcome screen prompting you to choose your language and giving you the option to install Ubuntu or try it from the CD.

2. If you're using a USB drive: Most newer computers can boot from USB. You should see a welcome screen prompting you to choose your language and giving you the option to install Ubuntu or try it from the CD.

If your computer does not automatically do so, you might need to edit the BIOS settings. Restart your computer, and watch for a message telling you which key to press to enter the BIOS setup. It will usually be one of F1, F2, DEL, ESC or F10. Press this key while your computer is booting to edit your BIOS settings.

You need to edit the Boot Order. Depending on your computer, and how your USB key was formatted, you should see an entry for 'removable drive' or 'USB media'. Move this to the top of the list to force the computer to attempt to boot from USB before booting from the hard disk. Save your changes and continue.

3. Choose your preferred language and click on 'Try Ubuntu 10.10'

4. Your live CD desktop should appear. Have a look around!

Blogger has been rolling out new features to improve the looks and usability of the blogs. Blogger is now testing out a new Social Sharing icon set consisting of Email, Blogger,Twitter(with goo.gl shortener),Facebook and Google buzz buttons. The set looks simple and elegant with some cool mouse over effects. The fact that it's free to use for multiple remote PCs, with reasonable monthly plans if you need more--five computers for $20 per month or $200 per year--makes this remote-access program instantly appealing. The program differs from its competitors in that the application runs in your Web browser. If you're running Firefox, it asks to install a plug-in and then opens an emulator of the remote PC in a new window. If you have a lot of tabs open, LogMeIn will slow down your browsing and possibly your CPUs clock speed a bit.
The control window gives you some standard options such as Ctrl-Alt-Del (which kills the connection) and changing the view settings, as well as tabbed access to adjust the connection setting. The 256-bit SSL encryption and dual passwords--one for the program and one for the remote PC's log-in--are welcome protections.

You must upgrade to take advantage of the file transfer and synchronization abilities, but creative users should be able to find ways around that restriction for small files. Still, for the functionality and the price, LogMeIn is an excellent program.

Is your system too overloaded with apps? Does it take way too much time to boot up? Would you like a simple, uncomplicated software that can help you optimize the programs that load on Windows startup and decrease the time it takes your system to boot up? If so, you should check out Soluto. This program takes the concept of optimizing your system’s startup program to a new level. From a purely technical perspective, Soluto doesn’t do anything that is not been seen before: it either disables programs that start with Windows or otherwise delays them so that they load up at some point after the boot process is finished (things that freeware apps such as SysInternals Autoruns, Starter, and Startup Delayer have had on offer for quite some time). The difference is that Soluto succeeds in making this optimization process accessible to everyone regardless of their technical proficiency.

Soluto’s genius is that it is people-focused rather than PC-focused. It measures the time that it takes your PC to boot up, separates the apps that can be removed or delayed from those that absolutely have to be there, shows you exactly how much time each program is adding to total startup time, and gives detailed information on what the program is, what happens if it is removed from startup, as well as a recommended course of action. Last but not least, Soluto has a “social” aspect where it tries to employ the collective wisdom of its user base to both describe unknown apps as well as suggest solutions and contribute questions.
Worth mentioning is the fanciful term the developers of this app refer to this project: decoding the PC genome. How cool is that?
The video below, created by the the developers of Soluto, offers an easy way to become more familiar with what this program is all about. So, therefore, I will offer the TEN things I like best about this program:

(1) The fact that it measures your overall boot time, and keeps track of exactly how much time your were able to save via the optimization process.
(2) That it displays a visual timeline, with each different program or process displayed according to the time that it consumes, giving you an idea at a glance regarding which programs take up the most time. (See screenshot at the top of this post for an example).
(3) That it offers a “recommendation” and backs it up with arguments (see screenshot to the right)
(4) That it displays programs in three categories: “no brainer” programs that are recommended for removal, “potentially removable” that likely can be removed but have to be given some consideration, and “required” programs which have to remain in startup and cannot be removed.
(5) That it offers an implication of removal; i.e. it answers the question: “what will happen if I remove this from loading on startup anyway”
(6) That it offers a delay function, whereby apps are loaded after the booting process, at a time when the computer is idle.
(7) That “paused” programs can easily be re-instated if necessary.
(8) That it employs the wisdom of the crowd (or is that the cloud?) in identifying unknown entries. The jury is still out on that one, though, to see if the Soluto user base will contribute to the project and whether the concept will work out as intended (personally, I am optimistic, as this is a great program).
(9) That it is accessible to relatively non-technically savvy users, such that I can recommend it to those users inadvertently pile up startup programs without knowing it and who really need a program like this one most
(10) That it works: I was able to go down from 3:41 mins to 2:53, cutting down my boot time by 25%. Of course I could have done the same thing using other startup manager programs such as those mentioned above, but I didn’t. The point is, Soluto makes it so easy and straightforward, and in many cases provides value added insight.

RasterVect has: TWAIN support for importing from any scanners; the ability to automatically recognize orthogonal and inclined lines, as well as arcs and circles; the ability to maintain the scale of the initial paper drawing. RasterVect can transform a grey and colored images in black-and-white for subsequent recognition; can change a turn of the raster image; can correct union points of lines, arcs and circles. There is also support for lines, arcs and circles alignment.

Will it work for you?
The only way to find whether RasterVect will work for you is to try it using one of your own scanned drawings.
You can do this using the RasterVect trial version. This allows you to read in your own scanned drawings, and convert them.
Once you can see the conversion results you will be able to answer the question - "Is it quicker to edit a converted drawing in my CAD program or will I be better off redrawing the whole thing from scratch?"
If you are using RasterVect it will usually be quicker to use this vectorizer and edit the results than to digitize, trace or redraw a whole drawing from scratch. However there will be times when the original quality of the scanned drawing makes vectorization and subsequent editing a practical impossiblity. This is true for all raster to vector conversion programs, none of which perform magic.
Automatic vectorizing is not perfect. It does, however, provide a way to getting a paper drawings into your CAD program for quick and easy editing. It will not give you excellent results all the time. But when it does it is a very useful tool to have on your computer.

TMonitor 1.03 now available

TMonitor is aimed to display the active clock of each individual core of Intel Core 2 and Core i3/i5/i7, as well as AMD K10 processors.(Support of AMD Turbo CORE technology.)

A very high refresh rate (20 times per second) allows to visualize the smallest clock variation in real time. TMonitor is able to detect mechanism such as Intel Turbo boost, and therefore allows to clearly visualize its effect as the processor is working.

Directions for use

Install TMonitor
Unzip tmonitor.exe in a directory of your hard drive and run it.
Use TMonitor

You can run as many instances of TMonitor as there are physical CPUs in your system. The first instance will be attached to CPU #0, the next one to CPU#1, and so on.

If your processor supports the Intel Turbo Boost Technology or AMD Turbo CORE technology, the boosted frequency will appear as a yellow bar extension, and the current value will also be display in yellow for the time that Turbo is enabled on the core.
Please note that starting with a certain size for the graphs, you will be notice as many yellow bricks as the number of "bins", namely the number of steps that the core multiplier is increased by the Turbo.

Tools and Options

Right-click anywhere in the TMonitor main window to make the floating menu appear.

View allows to switch between the display of actual clocks in MHz and the display of the current multiplier. Please note that the switch does restart any record process that is currently running.

Turbo allows to dynamically enable and disable the Turbo boost.
Record data
The output is stored in a .csv file. The file is created in a directory named "logs", created at the same level as TMonitor. The file uses the following name convention :

tmon_cpuX_Mo_Da_Ho_Mi_Se.csv, where :

X is CPU number in the system (starting at 0).
Mo is month.
Da is day.
Ho is hour.
Mi is minute.
Se is second.

To start recording, press F5, or choose Logs, and Start Recording from the floating menu. The application title bar will confirm that the events are being recorded. Press F5 again to stop recording, or choose Logs, and Stop Recording from the floating menu. Note that switching from "clocks" to "multipliers" will cause the recording to be stopped.

Background In Google Search Home Page

Google has just rolled out a new feature currently available to US users, they have added a new link on the google search home page. This link is shown on the bottom left and it allows to set background image on the google search main page.

So, most the users browsing google from US or using a US based server proxy can see the new link to change the background image on the home page.

If you are based out of US or just want to see this feature in action, but when you try to visit google.com you are automatically redirected to your own google country domain then you can see this image below to visit google.com even if you are not in US:

Follow the procedure below to add image to google homepage

Sign in to your Google Account in the top right corner of the Google homepage.
Click Change background image in the bottom left corner of the Google homepage.
Choose where to select your background image:

* From my computer: Select an image saved on your computer.
* My Picasa Web photos: Select an image from your Picasa Web Albums.
* Public gallery: Select from public photos featured in Picasa Web Albums.
* Editor’s picks: Select from a set of Google recommended images.

Once you’ve chosen your image, click Select at the bottom of the window. It may take a moment before your new Google homepage background appears.
